This informative workshop will cover safety, setup & maintenance of the router, followed by bit selection, profiles & their uses and safe routing techniques.

This is an introductory class, if you have experience using a router and are interested in Jig Making, Joinery and learning more about using a router table, then take a look at our Routing masterclass. 

Here's what we look at in Routing Essentials:

  • What a router is and what it can do for your projects
  • What you need to know when purchasing your router
  • How to correctly hold and use a router for safe results
  • Grain direction when routing
  • How to make templates for pattern routing
  • Different router cutters and when to choose which one
  • Feed direction & speeds
  • Correctly inserting and tightening a cutter (< < very important this one!) 
  • How to control or eliminate burning when routing


Important Information about this class below

What to bring:

- You will be provided with the required PPE but you are welcome to bring your own should you have hygiene concerns.

What to wear

- Your safety is paramount. When attending a class where power tools will be used, please wear comfortable but not loose fitting clothing.

- Please remove jewellery prior to using specific power tools.

- If you have long hair, please ensure it is safely tied up.

- Enclosed shoes are a condition of entry to our workshop, this is not negotiable and you may be asked to leave.

Class Cancellation Policy

If you are required to quarantine or isolate due to Exposure to COVID-19, Notify us immediately and we will waive the cancellation Fee.

Our standard cancelation policy is below:

$50 Cancellation Fee applies to all Adult Classes

$12 Cancellation Fee applies to all Children's Classes

No-Show's forfeit any payment made relating to their booking.

We understand that sometimes life throws you a curveball and you may be unable to attend something you have made a commitment for. In the event that you are unable to make it to your class and you are able to provide us notice of this prior to the start date of your class you will receive a refund less the $50 Cancellation Fee. Unfortunately due to our small class sizes and costs of materials, this fee must be charged unless 14 days notice is given in advance of your class date.

If you advise us 14 days in advance that you are unable to attend, we will happily transfer you to another session time or make our best efforts to accommodate you. Your class fees may be issued to you in the form of a voucher If a date cannot be organised promptly.
