Timber Machining Workshop

From rough sawn to recycled or simply just not right, trying to create projects accurately is often difficult unless the materials have been properly prepared. 

These larger machines are inherently dangerous, If used incorrectly, serious injury can occur, which we don't take litely.  In this class we'll talk about purchasing these machines (should that be your intention) how to setup & maintain them and then safely use them, for optimum results & efficiency. 

Techniques you will try your hand at:

• Selecting timber for safe machining

• Determining grain direction

• Safest use of the jointer

• Safest use of the thickness planer

• Rough Cutting to length 

• Handling long lengths of timber

• Final Cuts

• Checking for square, straightness and flatness

• Marking timber surfaces to eliminate error

Tools you will get to use:

• Combination planer/thicknesser

• Sliding compound mitre saw

• Cordless Jigsaw

• & Lots of other important bits & bobs too!

What you will need to bring:

• Water bottle

Attendance requirements:

• Appropriate clothing ( Strictly loose fitting, including jewelry) 

• Enclosed Shoes (not negotiable in the workshop)

• Minimum attendance age for this class is 18yrs
