Why should I choose a Low Angle Jack Plane?
Low Angle jack planes are incredibly versatile. Due to the ability to interchange the blades with others ground to different Angles, you can achieve different cutting results depending on the timber, or specific application. While low Angle's are helpful for taking shavings on end-grain, you then have the ability to swap to a higher Angled blade for things like smoothing (where more of a scraping action is required).Â
One thing to note about this particular design is the Norris style adjustment mechanism. The Norris style adjuster combines the advancement wheel (depth of cut) with the lateral adjustment required for the blade to cut evenly with the surface. This makes the setup or modification to the setup of the plane on the fly, easy and simple.
The Adjustable throat (or toe) of the plane means the gap between the blade and the body of the plane can be closed up to provide increased support for small shavings (such as end-grain) or can be opened up to allow for a heavier shaving to pass through.Â
